Comoros Chronicles - Day 7 - Moroni - Travel Happenstance

It was nice to sleep in a nicer hotel again, and take advantage of the very decent breakfast buffet - but it's time to check out and head around with our final errands before our flight out of here.  To be honest, Jeff & I are not exactly looking forward to this trip which promises to be our most complicated and challenging one yet.  Given the limited sched...

Comoros Chronicles - Day 6 - Moroni - English through music & Very private party

Another morning flight back to Grand Comores - I'm crossing my fingers that it will be the same type of tiny 15-seater.  Not only is it the same type, I think it's the same plane, and the same Russian pilots ;-)

We make it back to Moroni with no undue difficulty and I admit I'm very glad to check back into the Retaj hotel whose amenities and hyg...

Comoros Chronicles - Day 5 - Mutsumundu - VIP's and Citadelle Concert

We check into the sea front hotel (nice views!) with a couple of hours to spare before the first concert.  My body has finally realized that it hasn't actually eaten much of substance in the past 24 hours, so I agree to sit down for a pizza with Lydia.  (I know, mom, I didn't come all the way to the Comoros to eat Italian food, but sometimes it is the safest t...

Comoros Chronicles - Day 5 - Domoni - Private Tour

We're given "quartier libre" to have a leisurely breakfast - we're scheduled for pick-up around 11:00 for a tour of some of Domoni's historic sites, then we'll drive back through the mountains back to the other side of the mountain for a couple of concerts this evening (more about that later).

By the time I show up for breakfast, Jeff has ...

After another nap, I'm starting to feel almost normal again, and by now I'm actually grateful that I got sick like this in London a few weeks ago, because it allowed me to recognize the signs sooner, and therefor nip the whole "tourista" in the bud before it got out of hand.  I'm also VERY grateful for the French invention of "Ercefuryl" which seems to clean these buggies right out!  (sorry if that's T.M.I... but you never know who it might help ;-) )

Comoros Chronicles - Day 4 - Domoni - Travel & Workshop

Up and at 'em!  We've negotiated a later pick-up than originally planned to catch our 9am flight to the neighboring island of Anjouan.  At the airport, we're led across the tarmac to an airplane of Czech construction out of a dream of some old 1960's post-war film... the cabin has 15 seats, not much of a separation between us and the two Russian pilots, and cert...

Comoros Chronicles - Day 3 - Beach and Public Concert

Une journée de rêve!!  (A day out of a dream)  Breakfast is served till 10:30, so finally a little chance for a bit of a lie in.  Today is "Eid" - a major muslim holiday - so we linger over breakfast to allow our driver a bit more time at the mosque and with his family before coming to pick us up to take us on our next adventure.  Jeff opts to spend the afternoon as a solitary trekker - I think he's eager for a chance to relive some of the adventure of his youth ...
